Why Thanks giving?

Being Thankful is the law of increase. Complaining is the law of decrease.
~ J. Martin Kohe
“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.”
“Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot.”
~The Hausa of Nigeria

“Gratitude is a vaccine, an antitoxin, and an antiseptic.”
— John Henry Jowett

Like smiling and conscious breathing, being Thankful brings expansion in body and mind. We feel relax and less tight in body and heart. We are more expansive and spacious. We feel bigger, expanding towards the infinity while keeping feet on the ground. Giving thanks not only to other and the world but to the self, other and the world is way to heal our past, include it in healthy way and transcend it for better future. When we smile we expand when we breathe skillfully we expand and when we relax in the present moment we expand. Likewise when we ground ourselves in gratitude we expand. Our body has more space, mind is more alert. We feel more connected. A sense of belonging and care awake in us.
Our awareness can include more and more…. . Being in Gratitude is almost opposite of being in depression . It is impossible to be thankful and feel hopeless and depressed. In Depression one contracts, one creates separation, loneliness. One lives in an egocentric boundary.
With intention and continue practice we learn to ground ourselves in gratitude. The more we walk this journey of gratitude more we are free from egocentric self. I make courage to expand breaking the illusory boundary of me and my only. I include you and us and ultimately all of us-one lives with Cosmo-centric self. Universe becomes their home, everyone becomes family. This is real freedom-real richness and expansion. Like conscious and skillful breathing one feels joy of expansion and belonging. Thanks giving, forgives, compassion is not an act of ethics it is very deep need of our psyche to expand. It is creative growth process.

Thanks giving day is coming or all the time there is thanks giving and receiving moments and opportunities but we forget. This Day is special Reminder! Life is about celebrating our blessings. One day in a year we get together to appreciate life together. i guess that is what Thanks giving day is about.. i don’t know much about the history of Thanks giving day-how , when, who started , what happened to native people of this land. I have heard that there was some kind of injustice happened to native people’s life . i pray for their peace and i forgive myself as a collective consciousness and other for whatever happened.
i find this festival is powerful way to coming together to appreciate ourselves as collective human being moving towards better and better (better means more evolved and conscious Becoming) Being!
i have celebrated 12+ Thanks giving days in this country many many ways- with myself being alone to with making food for 10 people, to 100 people, by walking in the street of SF in the search of a restaurant: by talking all day to homeless guys about his fear of cold people , not of cold whether and turkey; to by being in a hippy farm with very kind people

How to start
There are many techniques, many traditions and teachers of meditation.
One simple way to start until you find your path would be:
1. Decide to meditate every day morning and/ or evening before bed time for 5 minutes
2. Better choose same time everyday,
3. Sit in same place, facing same direction in the beginning of practice.
4. Close your eyes, relax your body
5. Start to relax your thoughts as if they are clouds floating in the space of your mind. Treat them as if they are strangers, they have nothing to do with you. They come and go.
6. Now with count of 4 slowly start to inhale and counts of 4 slowly start to exhale. As you inhale, enjoy expansion in your body like a wave rising and as you exhale enjoy contraction in your body as a wave falling. Notice the rhythm of rising and falling.
Discomfort in body may arise, Mind might wander, some strong emotions may carry your awareness away from present moment-all kind of resistances, distractions may happen. They are normal. Don’t think and get discourage that it is happening to you only. As soon as you remember simply come back to breath and declare that I have a body but I am not my body, thoughts are there in my mind but I am not my thought, I have feelings but I am not my feelings.
Just breathe this way for 5 minutes.
7. Before you come out of meditation, think of one blessing in your life.Thank for that to Universe and with smile come out of sitting meditation.
